The rudimentary function of the primary seal is to curtail evaporation and breathing losses and annular vapour space. Vapor mount and Liquid mount primary seal consists of five elementary parts.

1) Weather protector : Fabricated from G.I. material, it protects the seal against ultraviolet radiation, rain, snow and plunging objects. Help dissipate electrostatic charges.

2) Seal cover : High-strength nylon fabric reinforced with nitrile or neoprene with a special resistance to abrasion and aromatic compounds. Special fabrics can be provided in case of unusual storage products.

3) Foam Sections : Flexible polyurethane solid foam facilitates filling the annular gap and compensates for shell irregularities and expansion. Uniform thrust against the tank shell provides accurate centering of the float roof.

4) Hold-down Bars : The metal hold-down bars keep the seal in position throughout the floating roofs useful travel range.

5) Holding Flats : Manufactured out of M.S. metal, it prevents the seal cover from slipping during the upward-downward movement of the roof and grips the entire sealing device together.
